In schip circles we call those "flying hugs" and only the most nimble are capable as it is a long jump up from the ground. Brownie(a terrible name for a black dog) can do it if I ask, so people think it is a party trick, but it is really just any excuse for a trip up into my arms. I am sure it is the same for Nellie, any reason to be with mom is a good one, and a quick hug while she is at the dog park is just great.
