Of Cranberry Juice and Cookies

So, the UTI is going away quickly enough that I don’t think I’ll have to resort to antibiotics.  My natural foods store is tired of seeing me, (it’s the only place I can buy straight, un-cocktailed cranberry juice) but I think I’ll live.  Thank you to everyone who suggested the cranberry capsules.  What brand do you use?  I didn’t see any sort of measurements on the ones I found.  As a result, I didn’t end up buying any of them, but I might bring some up to CT for the big Thanksgiving weekend so that everyone doesn’t have to know my urinary-tract business.  A big bottle of unsweetened cranberry juice in the already overcrowded fridge would definitely give away the game, I’m thinking.

Decided I was being a big baby about the “I think I ovulated” nonsense.  I’m on massive drugs, and my system is completely out of whack – read last week’s “I’m bleeding!  Again!” entries for more info on same.  I have an appointment tomorrow to check on this anyway, and that’s soon enough for either good or bad news.  Not like they can make me not have ovulated, if I already did…  (Besides which, if I go in today, I’d be seeing Herr Bigshot, and I don’t think I could deal with that.  I might go all crazed-IF-patient on him and get kicked out of the clinic.  That’d suck)

In more cheerful, upbeat news, I slept through the night – for the first time in, oh, a week and a half.  Between the Lupron, visiting my in-laws (they have a lovely place, but oh! our bed there is miserable, and we’re in the “hot” room.  We’re totally opening a window this weekend!), and the UTI for these last couple of nights, I’ve been getting less than an optimal amount of sleep.  Even last night was less than 7 hours, but it was 7 contiguous hours, which makes a difference to my brain.  I feel less fuzzy than I have in days.

And tomorrow is the appointment wherein I should find out if this cycle is a go or not.  If we’re on, I’ll have a monitoring appointment next Friday, and we’ll be set for retrieval/transfer the week after that.  Excited.  Scared.  Bored.  Thrilled.  Round & round my emotions go.  Wish they’d stop, dontcha know?

Because I’ve got a bunch of stuff to get done.  Besides the knitting craziness, I’ve got a ton of things to accomplish and it’s only a month til Christmas – how did this happen?  And all kinds of parties to prepare for – Chocolate mice being my specialty, as well as peanut butter/hershey kiss cookies.  Why is it that no one in NYC has ever had these before?  For once I’m the worldly one.  That’s me – chock full of Christmas cookie sophistication.  Maybe this year I’ll break out the toll-house cookies and really floor them all…

Hope you don’t need it, but, a potential (wacky?) UTI hint for you: Your natural food store may carry a product called D-Mannose which is a simple sugar said to bind to the bacteria in your urinary tract and and assist in flushing those nasty things from your system (with the help of copious amounts of fluid, of course.) Sounded hokey to me, but I ‘have a friend’ with an OB who was threatening to put her on antibiotics for the remaining 6 months of pregnancy due to a symptom-free UTI. After 2 rounds of antibiotics with not much luck she moved on to the D-Mannose and was a bacteria-negative tester in 2 weeks. I don’t know how I feel about it, but it may be worth throwing a bottle into your bag so you have a backup plan of attack in a Dr. free Thanksgiving zone. You know. If things get desperate. UTIs are horrible.

Many good wishes to you and Ms. Donor Fantastica and I’m really hopeful that I’ll be reading your pregnancy symptom list soon.

Ooooh, I’ll totally go look for that. We’ll see if my nfs carries it. Yay for non-antibiotic remedies! Thank you so much for the tip!

NYC doesn’t know about peanut butter and hershey kiss cookies? How odd – we have them in Chicago.

I admire your ability to hand-knit gifts for others. I am a selfish knitter, and that’s ok.

    Good luck tomorrow.

I don’t recall the brand and I don’t have the box anymore, but I’m sure any of them would do. You’res upposed to take 2 with a large glass of water every 1-2 hours, but you can’t really OD no cranberry pills, particularly if its all natuarl.

Thinking of you as you wait for tomorrow.

You’re right, of course. Not entirely sure why I thought it might matter.
Though I suppose that ingesting the equivalent of 50,000 cranberries might make me crave an awful lot of turkey…

I wanna say AZO was the brand… but I had to google even that. I’m glad that you’re already on the mend.

I hope tomorrow’s appointment goes swimmingly!

  • Gah – good luck tomorrow!!!

  • Good luck tomorrow! I am so sorry to read about all you have been through.
