4w6d – Liver & Onions

There’s not much going on in Sprogblogger-land.  I have my first OB appointment at my clinic next Wednesday, right before we leave town for the great (and somewhat foolhardy) Montreal Road Trip.  We should learn whether it’s simply one kickass Sprog or two at that time, but it’ll probably be too early for a heartbeat.

Symptoms are still around.  Namely the Thirst & the Morning Hunger.  Don’t-Touch-My-Chest is still in full effect, as is the Bloat, but I’m pretty comfortable.  A few squidgy feelings in my gut, and some foods are tasting much better (or worse) than usual.  I have to brush my teeth way more often than I normally might, but it’s nothing unbearable.

Which is pretty amazing, since according to one pregnancy calendar, Sprog’s already got a liver, and it’s starting to function today.

(How cool is that?)

In a mostly non-pregnancy related note, I’ve also been spending an inordinate amount of time researching the best vegetables for this part of the country.  I’m planning a massive vegetable garden on my youngest stepdaughter’s patio this year, since she’s not here to enjoy it for most of the season, and it’s the only spot in the backyard that actually receives sunshine.  Tomatoes are a no-brainer, but I’m also thinking pretty hard about trying to grow onions again – there is something very compelling about digging onions out of the soil, I’m not sure why that is.

I’m also not sure why it’s fun to plan things again – and as I wrote that out I wanted to smack my forehead with one hand.   Of course I know why it’s fun to plan things again.  It’s fun because I can imagine a time in my life again when my most pressing concern is whether or not my onions are going to mature before the first frost, and whether or not I planted enough Roma tomatoes to put up a whole year’s worth of sauce.  God, I’m looking forward to nematodes, and my spring running dry before summertime, and chicken lice, being the most immediate problems in my life.  And it feels like that space in my life is coming just a bit closer.

And I have to say, I love that.

  • Congratulations on the liver!
    and
I love that you are thinking ahead to chickens and chicken lice, because that is really what life is all about (I am serious here)– the things that make us happy get so subsumed by all of THIS, striving, planning, hoping, and
gosh darn, won’t it be the best thing ever just to DO and BE a little?

imagining babysprog running around while you weed.
imagining your very own sweet potatoes nestled in your very own cold cellar
    and
I love pulling carrots and any root veggie really, all pomp above ground, but a sweet secret below…

I love imagining life as I want it to be, it helps me realize I am still in here somewhere, and that is always a relief. It would not surprise me at all if I went looking for me and find only bones and realized that, indeed, this Has consumed me.

So, HURRAH for imagining your evolution back to a different simplicity and starry skies.

Might want to check out the dartmouth area (new london is kind of a cool tiny college town with a coffee shop) and the mad river area of vermont is very cool too.

  • At first, I thought you were craving liver and onions! EWWW!

  • This one brought tears to my eyes because I feel it so completely — the joy of looking forward to things again. The sweet anticipation of the simplest things, rather than the slogging through. Life feels exciting again! I am so happy for you that you’re here. Enjoy that trip to Montreal — I absolutely love that city.

  • IF robs us of so many things, including joy in the simple things in life. We get so focused on the BIG stuff (i.e. getting/staying pg) and rightfully so. I’m so happy for you and your little sprog and that you are getting to plan normal life stuff! I can’t wait to hear your first OB report. We didn’t have a h/b at our first u/s but a few days later, there it was beating away! :-)

Here’s hoping for one happy healthy gestational sac for you next week!

  • Yeah, at first I was like, oh no, no, no sprog, don’t eat that – but I love the fact that it was about the little one’s liver and cool home grown onions!

I hope time flies between now and Wed!

One of my favorite fascinations with being pregnant is the weekly development. It’s pretty amazing, especially the 1st trimester when soooo many changes are happening. I have about 4 websites I frequent weekly, and the Pregnancy Week by Week book.

Ah, fresh tomatoes. How I miss them.

  • Feeling you on the bloat. Ugghhhh. YAY for planting veggies. I think that was what I was most excited about when we moved from our townhouse to our current home. I finally had an honest to God yard to plant all kinds of crazy things in that I never had room for before. Gardens are awesome. And a great stress reliever. We’re going to be needing that ;-) .
