Last RE Appointment Ever?

Wow.  Said our goodbyes, promised to come and show off Sprog in the Fall.  Hugged.  Said goodbye.

Because, yes, everything’s looking fine, hearts beating, embryos measuring on target for 8w4d.

Normally, graduation day would be a day of tossing pills and syringes every which way, but given my history, my doc is keeping me on most meds for another three to four weeks.  Which reassures me.  Which is his point, I think.

I do get to discontinue the blue estrace pills immediately – YAY!  and since I think their scratchiness is exacerbating the bleeding issue, I’m happy.  APAs came back negative again, which is good, and means I get to taper off the prednisone – or taper way down anyway, starting next week.  I’ll be on PIO & prometrium through March, just to be safe.  I’ll probably come off Lovenox at the end of February, though, which makes me a bit nervous, but there really doesn’t seem to be a need for it, what with the normal APAs.

One step closer to normal.

He told me to quit worrying about the spotting.  He did a really thorough check to make sure there are no weird bleedy spots in utero, and it’s clear, so he said not to worry about my rh- status.  It’s my blood, not embryo blood, so no antibodies will be produced.  He told me not to worry about the fact that my Lovenox bruising is nearly gone.  Actually, he laughed at me and said, “You really are a crazy woman, aren’t you?  It’s a GOOD thing that the bruising is going away.”

Um, yeah.  Yeah to the crazy.  That’s me.

So next week is my first OB appointment, and I’m hoping I can have half as good a relationship with OB as I’ve developed with my RE.  Of course, the reason I’ve got such a close relationship with him is because of all of the incredible shit of the last 2 years, so I guess I wouldn’t mind not getting the chance to develop a similar one for similar reasons.  But I’m going to miss my doc.

Not going to miss the clinic, though.  Not going to miss the horrible feelings of desperation that I swear are trapped inside those walls.  Not going to miss reliving each and every bit of bad news I’ve received in there, every time I’m placed in a given exam room.  Not going to miss that part at all.

Not one little bit.

Now it’s time to start praying that my new OB is as ultrasound-happy as I hope he will be.  Countdown to Tuesday the 16th…

    Graduation Day! Hooray!

I’m on Lovenox until 2 weeks before I deliver. That must be controversial among doctors. I think I was on progesterone until 10 weeks.

So glad things are going well. :)

  • Oh, joy! So so glad!
    Boring, boring, boring! (Yawn!) :-)
Can’t wait to hear about the first OB appointment!
    Love,
    Maddy

  • Congrats on your graduation!

    Congrats on graduation!

I am on lovenox until week 36 at which point I switch to heparin but I think we’re on it for different reasons maybe?

And yeah, the bruising for me at the stage you’re at did get better for a good while, and I also freaked out that maybe it wasn’t working or I was doing it wrong, lol. Trust me, if you keep it up through the duration of the pregnancy, you will have battle scars up and down.

  • yeah! You’re nearly there!

  • yay!!!!!!!!!!!!! just pls tell me your OB is NOT in bk?

  • Hooray for graduation day! Your meds plan sounds like a good one to me. I am SO rooting for you and Boy and Sprog.

  • Congrats on your graduation from the RE. That’s awesome. I was wondering when you would have your reduction? Is that procedure worrisome for you? I hope everything goes well.

  • So glad to hear all is well and that you are graduated! I too hope your new OB is u/s happy – make him/her be if they are not!

Yay and congrats! And I had bleeding that varied from a lot to spotting for around 5 weeks. Which seemed like forever. And then one day, it stopped. But I had a friend with IVF twins who bled for 22 weeks. And everything was fine.

  • So, so, so HAPPY for you! Now go celebrate.

  • Michelle

I also had bleeding until 12 weeks with IVF twin pregnancy, so don’t worry about it. I ended up losing the pregnancy at 22 weeks due to incompetent cervix (but it had nothing to do with the first trimester bleeding). Do the APAs include testing you for Factor II? I had 4 first trimester misscariages and I’ve had the recurrent misscariages panel done, but it did not include testing for Factor II. My high risk OB told me that Factor II can cause problems later in the pregnancy (i.e. after the first trimester) and that most REs do not test for it since it is not linked to first trimester misscariages. Since I tested positive for Factor II, she said I will have to be on Lovenox for the entire duration of any future pregnancies and on low dose aspirine for my entire life. I wish you all the best!

  • Happy Graduation Day!! I hope that your OB will be very receptive to the idea of weekly U/S :)

  • Hip hip hooray for great ultrasounds! :) I really hope that, given your history, your OB will dial you up for more frequent u/s than the normal patient. That’s what my OB said we’d do after my last loss, I just need to make sure she remembers promising that at my 1st appt!

  • Congratulations on graduating. Hope your OB is sympathetic although another 30 ultrasounds sounds like a bit too much to hope for!!

  • Sue

Wow, big day! Congratulations that all is looking good. I hope the med changes leave you feeling better. Good luck with getting into a rhythm with the new doc and his u/s machine.

  • What a momentus occasion! You can and should have as many ultrasounds as necessary to keep your sanity (without feeling insane for asking). It was a condition of me picking my OB and it saved my pregnancy.

I hope you manage to stay less crazy in the coming days given your good report today.

  • Thank you, thank you for your words of wisdom.

  • KK

Happy Graduation! I hope your new OB is very liberal with the u/s to help keep your mind at ease.

  • YAY Sprogblogger! Happy graduation!
I cannot tell you how happy I am for you– inexpressibly happy- dancing around making the YES fist happy. Ask for what you need with the new doc, remember, although it rarely feels like it, he/she is working for you.

    Big happy love to you,
    Kate

  • Happy graduation day!!! I am over the moon happy for you!

  • Since your appt is on Sophia’s 2nd birthday, I am going to say it will be a good appt and he WILL be u/s happy!

  • Happy graduation day and a big hooray for two healthy heartbeats. I missed my RE but have found a great OB and MFM specialist. Hope you get the best of the nice of the great too.
