10 Weeks, 2 Days & All is Well
All is well, save that it took two hours in the waiting room before I could get in for my 15 minute ultrasound. And three sticks before they could draw blood. And he tried to find heartbeats with a doppler first – nothing. Then he did an external ultrasound – no movement.
Then I had a heart attack.
Then he did an internal ultrasound.
And Sprog’s busy moving around in there, heart beating away, looking more like a big-headed alien baby and less like a fish every day.
Yes, I’m still pregnant.
Whew. (36.5 hours of relief left before I go into panic mode again!)
I have, however, low thyroid hormone levels (which somehow means that my thryoid is overactive? He explained it, but I didn’t quite get it, being too excited by the whole ‘live baby’ thing.) And I’m deficient in B12 & folate.
Yes. Folic acid. Despite that giant honkin’ horse pill I’ve been taking like a chump every night for the last two years.
So, the folate news freaked me right the fuck out, but he said as long as I’ve been taking my prenatal, it’ll be fine. He told me to buy an under-the-tongue B12 supplement, in case my stomach is keeping me from absorbing B12, so I went ahead and bought the stuff with additional folate, too. Because, really, I’ve been through all this only to have problems because of a folic acid deficiency?
Sheesh.
But all is well, and even better? Next week’s appointment is on a day that I’m at the Realm of Pain.
Take that, evil Rumanian Princess of Despair!

YAY, Lovely little NORMAL pregnant Sweetheart! So glad your OB is willing to try whatever it takes to both see and hear your little one. Past 10 weeks! Wonderful! Too many exclamation points, I know. But hey, what better way to show how happy and excited I am for you and your wonderful Boy.
I love you both so much and there is plenty of love being sent to little Sprog as well.
Love, Mom
A hearty congratulations! I know myself how big a hurdle that 10 week mark is, you mustne thrilled. If you care for a thyroid explanation, basically TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is alot like FSH, except instead of your brain telling your body to stim your follies like crazy, it’s telling it to stim your thyroid like crazy. However, unlike FSH where the lower the number, the better (give me an FSH of 1. Please!), TSH can be too low. Being hyperthyroid (overactive, so low TSH) causes your body’s metabolism to run too fast – leading to heart palpitations, overheating, tremors, panting. Hypothyroid will make you exhausted, sluggish and poor concentration. It’s a happy medi we’re all looking for and pregnancy definitely throws it off – I just needed to increase my thyroid medication because I wad trending hypo. Important to monitor, especially in early pg as baby does not have thyroid function of its own until 2T. Whew!

Thank you! Yes, that sounds familiar. I was sort of tuning him out and panicking about the folate, to be honest. He checked again this week – hence the 3 attempts at a blood draw – so I’m hoping it will have gone up.
Yay for 10+ weeks. And normal u/s! And heartbeats and movement! (And for supportive Moms!!)
So glad to know that all’s still well with the sprog.
I wonder if he meant your TSH is low?
Sorry the B12 and folate aren’t cooperating – mine have never been measured, I don’t think. May the sublingual supplement do the trick!
Yay! So glad that all is well. Sorry you had to survive that little heart attack moment. Double bonus for missing the RoP for next week’s appointment.
Glad all is well. FWIW, you might ask your doc about a prescription for Folgard. It’s megadoses of folic acid, plus b12, and b6. I get the generic version, and it’s cheaper than buying supplements OTC.
And also on the FWIW front, b12 supplement might help with headache and insomnia. I was diagnosed with a deficiency several years ago (by my neurologist), and the supplements made a huge difference.
I love the 10 week ultrasound. I called LG “Little Alien” for a long time!
OMG, I love your mom.

Me too!
Awwwwwww your mom is commenting! That is so sweet
I cannot imagine how freaky it must have been to have the u/s and doppler not pick something up. Ugh. So GLAD the internal did though. YAY for weekly ultrasounds with a healthy growing bebe!
Hmmm, still being shuttled to the spam box- don’t get it!
Fucking A, Sprogbloger, I would have died in those moments. I am so sorry! So, all is well! most excellent! And folate and b12! Yay, more things! But at least you know.
And next week’s appointment is a double blessing– you have an appointment next week! and, bummer, you’ll have to leave the realm of pain to go…. alas.
I swear to you I will ASK for the internal US because I am retoverted/retrograde/bent backwards so I will not be wanting to wait to have them try that when the other does not work. My heart cannot handle it.
And me too, I do love your Mom, I really do. Really.
xox

If you’re looking for a second mom, I think she’s just about ready to adopt you!
WOnderful news! Congratulations. But I thought there were 2 sprogs in there…?
This is wonderful news!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!
Glad to hear things are going well, but I have to ask: where did sprog #2 go?
Oh my gosh, I would have just lost it at that appointment! I’m so glad it turned out OK, but I’m pretty sure my reaction would have been to hit someone!
So glad you’re well!
Sorry about the heart-attack.
I remember that you’re possibly getting close to some difficult moments. Best wishes and happy thoughts to you even if you choose to keep some (really hard) things private.
So pleased all looks great.
So happy that you have happy results at 10w2d. Hate hate hate how they used methods that scared the bejezzus out of you instead of the good ole trusty wand. Glad to know you get to ditch out of work early next time. I’ve been on a megadose of folate/b12/b6 for a while now too. It’s really supposed to help with many things during pregnancy all the way into the 3rd tri.
