Yeah!! That is amazing you get to know so early! And I agree about the clothes, everything is related to construction or sports and I don’t understand why the colors have to be so blah. What happened to primary colors? Congrats and how fun to finally know!

As for the name thing…yeah, been there done that. When PB and I agree on a name, it will be a good day to buy a lottery ticket. And boys names we find especially difficult.

I am just so absolutely completely over-the-top happy that you have a healthy little Sprog. Also I’m sure a boy will be very exciting for you, your husband and Nellie to raise and love. Naming will be very fun since you are both so creative, I’m sure the eventual list of both keepers and rejects will be awesome.

A Boy! Bright colours abound if you take the time to look. We got awesome bright stuff at Target when visiting the states. I’m so excited for you! And naming is hard, any way you look at it. I’m one for names that have some meaning to one of you or you both as a couple – so when people have ‘opinions’ you can shut them down with your reasoning. That’s just me though. I hope you find the perfect name for your perfect little bundle. What joy!

Susan! How exciting for you to be able to relish in the fact that you are having a boy. We did PGD with my successful own-egg IVF and we put back two boy embryos. All my life I thought I wanted a girl, it was just one of those things that stuck with me. But, the universe knew better and given what a boy my little boy is, I’m not sure what I would have done with a little girl.
Congrats to you both and I hope you are exhaling tonight.

Delurking to say congrats!! How exciting to know what you’re getting.

About the names — I don’t have kids myself but some of the best advice I have heard is that once you get it narrowed down to a few possible first/middle name combos what you should do is stand in your living room and absolutely bellow the full name at the top of your lungs in a few different tones — as if you were really mad with him, as if you were calling him for dinner, etc. Unfortunately for me, this eliminates a lot of names *I* personally like (which are mostly flow-y girl names like “Morwenna” that don’t lend themselves to yelling) but I still think it’s good advice since it gets you to use the name in a good variety of the practical ways you’ll be using it in the future.

I also like the tradition of naming from both cultures — if they’re important to either one of you. If I ever decide to have a child, he/she will be having at least one definitively Welsh/Irish name, because that’s important to me. The other name can be from the boy’s culture.

Just my two cents if it helps — good luck finding the perfect name though!!

How exciting to know – and fighting over a name already! But what a fabulous thing to be fighting over. I’m sure your DH is kinda excited to have a boy after 3 girls too – something really different.

Our solution to the name game was, I went through the name book and wrote down for each letter the names I thought would be acceptable. This left me with about 100 names. then I read them to DH and he said ok, or no. We were left with 3 we both agreed COULD work, and only one I was liking a lot (and he tolerated – it was the name of a bully from his elementary school). We worked that out cuz the bully used a shortened pet name version and we only call him by his full name. Seems to work.

I should say it was hard because DH and I both have J names, and we didn’t want to start naming all the kids (ALL, hahahaha!) with J names too – so J was out. And we LOVED tons of names that started with J! Also our last name is a C name, and we didn’t want alliteration going on there. Silly but ya know. It’s kind of a big deal what a person will go through life being called!
