Days of Grace 3-27-10

1.  Damn, this month has gone by quickly.  Which is, really & truly, a blessing.  Despite it being only 29* out there, it looks like spring from my kitchen windows.  Peach & plum trees blooming, magnolias budding, bulbs starting to show a bit of color.  I am glad.  It’s been a long winter.

2.  Fun things (like grocery shopping, and a trip to a nursery for tomato-starting pots, and a long walk) planned for today.  Tomorrow is “take the dog to the park & the beach” day, but today is just for me.  Pleasant errands, done at my leisure.  Ahhhhh.

3.  Another full night’s sleep last night.  It’s amazing to me how powerful even a 1/4 of a prednisone dose can be, in that it can hype me up to the point that I can’t sleep even when I’m exhausted.  I am so looking forward to bed these days, and it’s been lovely actually being able to sleep once I’m there!   I know, I know, enjoy it while I can.

I do intend to.

4.  Today is the beginning of my 16th week.  Holy shit, and how did that happen?  This one day at a time stuff?  It really does add up.  What I want – what I really really really want – is to start feeling Thor moving all on my own, without machines to help.  And that might happen this week.  Maybe.  Not likely, but maybe.  And that?  That’s a wonderful thing to look forward to.

5.  A mini ciabatta hot from the ovens from the Italian bakery around the corner.  Still so hot when I get it home that the butter melts immediately.  Yum.  That, plus my decaf-coffee weekend treat, and I’m one happy lady.

  • Just a comment on feeling movement early: it depends on where the placenta is. If the placenta is anterior it will be in the way of you feeling movement.

Also, as you use the Doppler, the sound that sounds like the drum is him kicking or hitting the sac. You’ll be able to map that sound to the actual real time feeling of it eventually.

The most oft sensation reported by women with their first pregnancies is “bubbles” which is why is often mistaken for gas. I felt bubbles at 18 weeks and actual movement at 22 weeks (and my son was measuring at least a week ahead with posterior placenta).

Any or all may or may not pertain…
