Baby’s got a brain!
And a heartbeat. And limbs in the right places. Had my OB appointment this morning, and it was pretty anti-climatic. Boring, even.
(HURRAH!)
Everything’s measuring on target, still due in mid-September, and all is well. They’re happy with my weight gain (about 7 pounds so far, though some of that was apparently water weight. He laughed during the ultrasound – “good lord, woman, didn’t you empty your bladder before you came in here? Bet you never make your husband stop on road trips.”)
Next appointment is at 20 weeks, when I’ll also go in to the imaging center at the hospital for my 20-week anatomy scan. I imagine I’ll be keeping the doppler at least that long, because I still haven’t felt movement. Damn it, kid, Mama wants to feel you dance!
And that’s about the state of things. My hands are swollen and I’m hoping it’s from the sudden onset of summer, and not because I’m going to be a bag o’ water for the next 5 months. I still gag every time I brush my teeth, and I would be perfectly happy eating nothing but boiled veggies and bread for dinner. I can eat pretty much anything at noon, but at nighttime? Food? Meh.
Heartburn sucks. I’m sleeping what seems like an inordinate amount, and sleeping on my side? It does suck a lot. Makes my hips hurt. Wakes up the dog. Who shifts around trying to get comfy again, which keeps me awake. And then I roll over, trying to get comfortable on my other side. Which doesn’t usually work.
Life is good. I won’t go so far as to say I’m enjoying this pregnancy, but I’m not waking up every day convinced it’s over. Getting through it one day at a time. All the way to September…

Yay for normal baby stuff! I didn’t start feeling movement until 18.5 weeks. I bet you start feeling him soon!
YAY for brains!
and for reassuring ultasounds!
and soon you’ll feel movement, they said to me it might be week 18-20…. good to know but sheesh.
Talk with me about your doppler, which one did you rent?
and
magnolia leaves,
ooooooh
how lovely.
Sleeping, small pillow between your knees? It might help.
sending love to you!

Hooray for Thor! Glad all is well. And that you’re as close to enjoyment as you reasonably can be. September’s not so far away…
Congrats on all going as smoothly as it should!!!
YAY! I’m so glad everything is looking good!
So great you got a peek at Thor and were able to see him moving all around in there. Congrats on a routine appointment (and your weight gain).
As I think I may have commented before, it’s helpful when using the Doppler, when you discern sounds of movement (like the beating of a drum) and attempt to correlate them with the sensation of movement. It will all depend on which way he’s facing, etc, but soon enough you will have that reassurance.
Truth be told, I kept the Doppler through delivery. And, was so thankful I did because I took a horrendous fall at 30 weeks (on New Year’s day, tripped on the sidewalk in front of our house while looking for the F-18s to do their flyover. I had been on strict bed rest for 13 weeks at that point and just wanted a sneak peek outside. I lay there for 20 mins, unable to get up, with my husband sound asleep inside. Thankfully, one of our dogs hear my cries and roused my husband. The Doppler was the first thing I went for before even agreeing to go to the hospital).
Congratulations! On the movement thing, don’t panic if it’s a while yet–I was 19 weeks when I could discern definite movement. Around 18-ish weeks I started having kind of a weird trembling feeling, and it slowly developed into “real-feeling” movement.
Yay for a brain!!
I’m 28w and I still sleep with a small pillow between my knees or my hips ache the entire next day.
Yesterday I was considering selling my doppler on Craigslist when my two year-old was jumping on the bed and landed square on my belly. I waited a few minutes to see if I could feel her moving, but couldn’t so I whipped out the doppler just for reassurance. She was right there and kicked against the doppler almost immediately.
Love that all is well Susan…think about you all the time even if I haven’t gotten over here and commented as much as I would like. Hugs and can’t wait to hear when you feel Thor move!
Yay for normal! Yay for boring! Super yay for seeing you tonight!

Glad you had another normal appt! There are some things for heartburn that worked for me – ranitidine and then when that stopped working omeprazole. Best cure though was delivery! Do you know if your placenta is at the front as that can mask movement until the baby is bigger but not feeling it until 20 w is normal anyway. I am so excited for you.
Wooohoo! So excited and happy for you. I hate to say it, but you haven’t seen anything yet when it comes to discomfort w/sleeping, heartburn, etc. But it’s all worth it! Just make sure you have Tums available in every bag, cabinet, nook and cranny…and have you considered buying one of those Snoogle pillows? Ridiculous name but it does help with the hip pain, etc. from sleeping on your side. I am so excited for you to feel movement — it truly does make it seem more real. I felt definite movement at 19 weeks and every week after that I became much more confident about the state of things. But like a previous commenter said, you may want to hold onto that doppler for the inevitable panic attacks you’ll have when you suddenly don’t feel him for a few hours (because, you’ll figure out later, he was sleeping!).
I had TERRIBLE hip pain during my last pregnancy. This time I went to Target and bought a full length body pillow for between my knees and a 1.5″ foam mattress topper and what a difference. Good luck!
I love your “everything is boring” posts! So much better than the alternative.
Ditto the pillow between your knees, but make sure it goes down to your ankles, too. That’ll keep your hips aligned better. A wedge pillow for under your belly will probably help, too. Even this early, things are pulling and shifting in there. I also think you owe it to yourself to get a prenatal massage – even if the pillows work.
best wished for continued boredom and uneventful doctor visits

all the way to september

Yay for a wonderful, uneventful doctor visit! I do have a$$vice for you: for heartburn, the OB told me to take over the counter Prev.acid. OMG, what a miracle. Seriously, I would start to get extremely nauseated from my own heartburn if I didn’t take it. If I wasn’t already married, I would have proposed to it.
I hope you start to feel some sweet movement soon!
Congrats on such a good appt. I didn’t start feeling movement till about 19 or 20 weeks. Now that I’m 28 weeks, I’m REALLY feeling him. So you have great things to look forward to. Good luck with everything and thanks for a great blog. I enjoy reading you!
Glad to hear the baby is okay.
