Elana - try a Devon Rex. I am totally a cat person and my daugther and I are allergic. We read about those being hypoallergenic and we got one. We've had her for 6 years now and no problems and she's the best.

We also just got our first dog (puppy) a month ago. She's delightful! You are right, the world does change when you have a dog - people just love puppies. How can they not just melt your heart??

BTW, we are big White Sox fans. Our cat is named Ozzie (after Ozzie Guillen). Our dog, a female...what to name her? Well, we wanted to keep in the tradition of naming after a White Sox player, but she's a girl. What to do? Well, hall of famer, second baseman of the White Sox, Nelson Fox. Perfect! Now, we have a Nellie too.

I read your blog every day and am overjoyed at your pregnancy and the joy you are experiencing. That is going to be one loved little boy! I can't wait to keep reading....

I loved this post. I always had dogs when growing up and it has been difficult living without one for these many years. I agree that it teaches empathy and compassion to children. I look forward to the day we get one for Cece and Viv to love too. Me + MrBeep + kiddo(s) + dog = family in my heart.

I keep asking my hubby for a cat, but he's allergic and refuses to get allergy shots. Boooo! So not fair. And I'm really a cat person, so even having a little teeny dog wouldn't be the same. *sigh*
