8 Months Old!
How about that for a crazy thing? You crawl! You laugh! You maintain your obsession with power cords! You eat pretty much anything I offer you. And you’ve started drinking out of a sippy cup – actually drinking, though you still like playing with it at least as much as you like drinking from it.
You’re this little person, with definite likes (playing with my long hair) and dislikes (having your face & hands washed with anything other than warm – nearly hot – water) and you’re quite good at communicating what you feel.
And you love your mommy and your daddy and your big sister Alie. She watched you while we went out to dinner a few nights ago — your first time going to bed without us! — and you did great. Such a big boy! Nellie is still your favorite non-person, you squeal with delight every time you see her, and she’s very patient while your clumsy hands try very hard (though without entire success!) at being gentle.
You kiss me, unasked for, and clap your hands for joy – actually, you slap the back of your wrist. It’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. When I kiss the palm of your hand, it provokes giggles and chortles and outright belly laughs. I love your laughter. I’m not sure I’ve ever been happier in my life, and it just gets better every day.
And when you’re having a really rough time? The song that soothes you instantly, transforming you from an unhappy, wailing little being into a limp, contented, happy baby again?
You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are gray.
You’ll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don’t take my sunshine away.
You are, you know. You are the sunshine that’s been missing from this spring in the northeast. It’s what I keep thinking – there can’t be any more sunshine outside, because you’re using it all up, my sunny, happy boy. I love you so much. Happy 8-month birthday.

What a great post! I’m SO happy for you!!! Eight months, wow!
Mine have this giant obsession with power cords also. I’ve looked at the power cord contraptions for hiding them and have yet to find something that would do the trick for our tangled mess. A vault, perhaps?
Also, last weekend I purchased these sticky bumper thingies and attempted to babyproof the edges on our entertainment center that are certain to cause booboos. I was very proud of my newly aquired supermom powers. By Monday afternoon they were ripped off.

Hehehe. That makes me feel better. Babyproofing is the first order of business once we move in. Fortunately, it’s an old house, so there just arent’ that many outlets. (I can’t believe I’m happy about that…)
Happy 8 months, Henry! It sounds like you are super busy.
Both of you.
Babies are like cats in their astounding powers to detect cables, aren’t they?

Yeah, what’s up with that? For the record, he’s also really interested in knives and fire…
Happy 8 months, Henry!! I also sing the Sunshine song to my girl, although I change the lyrics to “You’ll always know, dear, how much I love you” because it’s sort of odd the original way. It makes her smile every time

Is it okay that I sang your lyrics to Henry tonight? I like yours better.
Happy 8 months! (are u sure its not 18months, your little man is a linebacker!) : ) Seriously, how tall is he? My guy is obsessed with the power cord for the lap top…

I haven’t measured his height lately, but he’s wearing 18 mos clothing. Really. Yes, he’s monstrous big. His dad is 6’3″, and his paternal grandmother had a cousin who was 6’8″. I guess he’s taking after that side of the family!
Happy 8 months, Henry! Marley also loves power cords. I’m going to get these covers that mount on top of your baseboards to hide the cords. Marley also is obsessed with our entertainment center. The cute little curtain that covers it is not doing the trick. Must get new enertainment center!

It’s always a good excuse to buy a new entertainment center! I shudder to think what this place is going to look like once he starts walking…

My Ace is going to be a big boy like Henry. 12 weeks, 15 lbs.
Have you done a post about children’s books you recommend? The boys love to be read to when they are drowsy, and I’d love to get some recommendations.
Sweet Henry! Happy 8 months. Can you believe it?
You look so content and happy that you practically glow with love.
That photo is beautiful. You really are each other’s sunshine. Happy 8th month birthday, sweet Henry!
