Small Things 1-18-12

1.  Second night of good sleep in a row.  Loving this. Promise not to take it for granted again, at least for, oh, say, two weeks.  Now I need to start weaning him off his bedtime bottle.  How does one do this? Transition to a cup or just cold-turkey the poor little guy?

2.  Thanks to Amazon’s ‘Kindle Deal of the Day’, I learned that the author of one of my favorite oddball books has written a ton of other books I hadn’t heard about.  My to-be-read pile grows ever higher and topple-ier…

3.  Car seat is dry and reassembled.  Yay for running errands this afternoon.  (Which, I know sounds like the least exciting thing in the world, but we both like getting out of the house, and I’m excited to see if I can get the parts I need for a sourdough proofing box so I can start baking.)

4.  Henry had such a good time with his big sister.  He’s still looking for her, wondering where she went.  In fact, her name has replaced ‘Nellie’ and ‘Grandpa’ in the line-up of important names for him.  Glad we get to see her again in a couple of days!

5.  Next week begins our 2-classes-a-week schedule in the great ‘socialize the baby’ project.  Can’t wait to see how many daycare bugs we pick up in the first month of this…

  • We just started attending a playgroup the last couple weeks. I just found out they passed a nasty stomach virus around a couple weeks ago. Yeah, not looking forward to sharing sicknesses either. Isaac has only had the sniffles once and a fever once, so I’m not looking forward to more of that kind of thing. Hopefully he’s got naturally good immunity and we’ll be spared :) .

I live in abject terror of stomach viruses after suffering one like you just had last year. However I do take my toddler and baby to two playgroups, a music class and various playdates every week, my two year old has such a great time with the activities and other children, it is worth it to me. I know that if they’ll just be felled by everything once they get to school otherwise anyway and it would just be delaying the inevitable. I am making sure I keep breastfeeding my six month old right through to late spring in the hope he’ll be protected from the worst of it! Hope Henry enjoys himself, I am sure he will.

Night time milk was harder for me than my little man I think ; ) He actually picked up Roseola from our baby socialization experiment (little gym) and was so miserable he didn’t want his night sippy and we just went with it. Once he was feeling better we gave him his milk with dinner and that was it… Follow Henry’s cue’s and just give it a go- maybe he won’t mind ; ) (Or it could be a mess…maybe enjoy some easy, sleep filled night’s before changing it up!) Good Luck!

  • So are you looking into daycare, an in home day care provider? I’m curious as I know a lot of people are doing this and I haven’t even begun to consider it, maybe I should . Would love to know what you’re planning to do!

  • Expect loads of germs, and the the fun that comes with them, high fever, snotty nose, clinginess, rashes, puke, croup, yadayada. It’s how they build up immunity, they meet the germs first time, list it in the data base, move on to the next. Not. Easy. But it is what it is. And seeing them make friends and vrooming the cars together and starting to join the circle and the singing and the dancing – oh, that is soooo easy. And heart melting.
    Best of luck.

We only just got rid of the nighttime bottle last week. I was so incredibly worried about it. We finally just went cold turkey. G was mad for all of five minutes and hasnt looked back. Apparently I was the one all angsty about no more BABY bottles (and one more thing that meant my baby is growing up). You’ll know when it’s time. :)
