1.  Raining, which is a nice change (the ground outside is cracked it’s been such a dry winter) and also makes me glad we already went outside for our daily “run the toddler” experience.   Going to be a long afternoon if our planned playground time gets cancelled!

2.  Sitting on the couch next to the dog–something that doesn’t happen often because for all that whippets are supposed to be so very affectionate, Nellie prefers the comfort of the bed & comforter to snuggling with an annoyingly mobile human.  But I’m washing sheets, and she was unceremoniously dumped off the bed which threw her nose out of joint.  She’ll show me.  Maybe she’ll never sleep on the bed again!

If only.

3.  I’ve managed to lose one of Henry’s sheets.  Like, seriously lose.  Like, he has two sheets, and I need to peel the one that’s been on his bed for way too long OFF his bed before it, I don’t know, sticks.  But I don’t have a clean sheet to replace it with, which means it had better be a commando wash cycle, because Baby aint gonna be happy if I try to put him to bed on a damp sheet.

But seriously, folks, how do I lose a sheet?  It has a zipper on all four sides–that’s a lot of zipper, which means it couldn’t have just gotten accidentally folded up with something else, right? I’m tempted to start looking in places like the freezer, because honestly, I’ve already looked everywhere a normal person would lose a sheet (linen closet, clothes closet, behind the washer) I’ll let you know (in fifteen years or so, I’m sure) when/if I find it.

3.  Duchess of Duke Street is really a most wonderful period drama.  Wish BBC tended to drag series on & on, because I think we’re about 1/2 way through it, and I’m not ready for it to end!

4.  I replaced my countertop onion/potato & fruit baskets with a hanging basket because I was tired of Henry trying to help himself to shallots, and besides solving that problem, it’s amazing how much airier and cleaner my kitchen feels without the clutter on the countertop.  Sometimes it really is the little things.

5. Despite having had to go in and settle Henry back to sleep last night at 3:30, he’s currently in a good-sleeping-phase.  Meaning when he’s ready for his nap, he’s ready, and I can feed him his teeny bottle (which is taking about 45 seconds!) recite ‘On the Night You Were Born’ to him, sing one lullaby, and lie him down in his crib.

And then I can walk away, knowing he’ll fall asleep soon.  I know these things go in cycles, and next week he’ll likely be awake and demanding again when it’s time to sleep, but for the moment, I’m loving the peace and ease of it.  Battles at bedtime are no fun at all.  (And, a secret? When all he needs is for me to lie down nearby so he can snuggle next to me and warm up, I don’t really mind going in to him in the wee hours at all! He’ll figure out how to use a blanket soon enough, so treasuring the little warmness of him nestled in close? Pretty easy to do, even in the pre-dawn hours!)
